Windmill Power – STEAM Project

What did the Windmill say to the Wind?

I’m a big fan! 🤣

If you haven’t guessed it, today we are focusing on Windmills! Specifically we are challenging you to make your very own windmill.

While that might sound like a big project, it’s actually not as hard as it sounds. In our YouTube video, which you can find down below, Isaac will help guide you step by step to make your own windmill. To build your windmill you will need items you most likely have at your house already. Those items are listed in the video as well.

The purpose of building a windmill will be to see which blade configuration is able to harness the most wind power to lift an object. How exactly will we know which blade configuration will be the strongest? Testing!

When you are testing your windmill be sure to test a single variable at a time. That means only change one thing from test to test so that you are able to see how that one changed thing affects the outcome.

Some things you can test and change are the number of fan blades, Isaac uses 4 in the video but you can always add more or take away a blade. You can also change the size and shape of the fan blades, or even the angle of the blades!

In order to get the most out of this project you must test different variables and try changing variables to make the strongest windmill possible. We cannot wait to see what you come up with! 😁
